India claims number-two spot with textile export earnings of $40 billion

India’s Apparel Export Promotion Council has reported earnings from textile exports in 2013 at $40 billion.

This figure suggests India has overtaken German and Italy to become the world number-two textile exporter by value, behind China. China’s position as number one is under no threat, with earnings of more than $270 billion.

The figure includes earnings from exports of fibres, yarns, fabric and finished garments and cotton, silk, wool and synthetic yarns are all taken into account.
