Engineer in China admits to infringing Invista technology

Invista licenses its proprietary PTA technology to other companies, who use it to produce polyester-related products. During a project for a Chinese licensee, an employee of a Chinese engineering design company misappropriated some proprietary information, Invista has said.
This led to a lawsuit at the Beijing Intermediate People’s Court against the person concerned, who had already been dismissed by the engineering design company, which Invista has said co-operated in the case.
In a statement, the company went on to say it obtained a successful resolution shortly after filing the lawsuit, with the defendant agreeing to a number of requirements, including an agreement not to work in any job or activity in which he could use or disclose his knowledge of Invista’s PTA technology.
In addition, the engineer was ordered by the court to identify any individual or entity to whom he disclosed the information.
“Invista is committed to protecting the interests of its customers and their investments in technology licenses,” said Mike Pickens, general manager for performance technologies for the company, in the statement. “We will continue to take appropriate legal action as necessary, in China or elsewhere, to ensure protection of our intellectual property and the value it brings to our customers.”
