China's outdoor industry builds momentum
Sales of China’s core outdoor brands rose by 16.2% in 2013 while total sales in the industry grew by 12.9% to €4.4 billion, according to figures presented by the Chinese outdoor industry association at Asia Outdoor.

Members used the Nanjing-based trade show to launch a PR campaign designed to attract the public to the sector – “I need fresh air” – and distributed t-shirts with the slogan.

The event attracted 17,300 visitors over three days and companies including GoreTex, Mountain Hardware, Primaloft, Asics, Columbia, Odlo, Skins and Li Ning exhibited for the first time.

Buyers from Jiangsu led the retailers, followed by those from Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui and Guangdong provinces plus Beijing. There was strong attendance from representatives from the northern provinces of Shandong, Hunan, Hebei and Heilonjiang, according to organisers.

Darren Gao from the Taiwan Textile Federation said his exhibitors reported a high level of orders.

With a rapidly growing population and a greater focus on health, the outdoorwear market is expected to grow significantly over the next decade and could make up as much as 50% of total sportswear turnover by 2024.
