The report shows progress in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as in water and energy conservation, the company said at the time of the launch.
Specifically, it said it had reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 17% since 2006 and, over the same period, reduced its water consmption by 32%. In terms of energy, it has calculated a reduction in its consumption of 99 million kilowatt-hours since 2006.
“We pursue rigorous sustainability standards to ensure we meet, if not exceed, the expectations of our customers,” said chief executive officer, Fred Jackson.
A&E has set all of its manufacturing facilities around the world a goal of achieving zero waste to landfill, which its factory in Sri Lanka has already done. In 2013, it won recognition as one of the safest companies to work for in the US from a specialist health and safety magazine. It also partners with an organisation called the Wellness Coalition of America to introduce and implement health and wellness initiatives to help employees maintain and improve personal and family health, offering benefits such as free flu vaccines, weight-loss challenges and healthier food options.
In the report, the company says it also extends goodwill beyond the factories and into the communities in which it operates. The company’s global humanitarian efforts include donating waste thread to local artists and businesses who repair clothing in Costa Rica, initiating training in the Dominican Republic to reduce violence against women, and participating in blood drives, school fundraisers and other educational, health and eco-friendly community initiatives in the US.
“We invest in our employees and in the communities in which we operate. We strive to exemplify the highest ethical principles,” Mr Jackson concluded.
