Industrial thread manufacturer American & Efird (A&E) has released its corporate sustainability report for 2017-18, which highlights a range of areas in which it has made progress towards becoming a more environmentally responsible company.

“We strive to produce and distribute responsible, premium quality, ethical thread products every day through excellence in innovation and good manufacturing practices,” said Les Miller, chief executive of A&E. “We are committed to ethical manufacturing. It’s the right thing to do for our customers and stakeholders, but also our future generations.”

The report states that A&E has recycled or reused over 1.5 billion litres of wastewater since 2013. It explained this would be enough water to supply 75 million people with 20 litres of water for one day. It has also reduced its global water consumption by 48% since 2006.

With regards to solid waste, A&E said 16 of its global manufacturing operations and support facilities now send zero waste to landfill. Its five other operations are 91% of the way towards achieving this goal.

Since 2006, the company has reduced its global carbon footprint by 11% and its global power consumption by 7%.
