American & Efird launches latest sustainability report
09/07/2015
In preparing the report, the company evaluated all of its global yarn spinning and dyeing and finishing facilities and measured carbon footprint, water conservation, energy conservation, and recycling and waste reduction.
The company has achieved a 2% reduction in its global carbon footprint since 2006, while still growing as a worldwide business. It has also achieved a 34% reduction in global water consumption since that year. One initiative is a zero liquid discharge system at a dyeing facility in India. Using recylced water from there, American & Efird has now produced 1.1 million kilos of thread.
Its energy savings since 2006 are 7% and 100% of the energy it uses at one facility in Germany is now from hydroelectric sources.
