The special privileges Pakistan has gained from having Generalised System of Preference (GSP) Plus status, making it cheaper for buyers in the European Union to source products from there, have made a big difference to its export performance in the first four months of 2014.

In the January-April period in 2014, Pakistan brought in export earnings of $822.8 million for shipments of garments to the European Union. This represents a year-on-year increase of 24%.

GSP Plus status is reserved for developing economies.
