In 2013, Bangladesh became the second-biggest exporter of denim jeans to the European Union.
Figures for 2013 show that the European Union imported almost 500 million pairs of denim jeans, with a value of almost €3.7 billion.
In 2013, China was still the largest supplier of jeans by volume with 142.4 million pairs, but the average price per pair was lower than in previous years at €4.97, giving an overall value for China of €708.2 million.
This put China behind Turkey and Bangladesh in terms of value. Turkey’s volume was much smaller at 56.9 million pairs in 2013, but an average value per pair of €13.98 gave it a greater overall value of €795.4 million.
Bangladesh’s volume was much closer to China’s at 141.1 million pairs and an average value per pair of €5.50 put it in second place with an overall value of €775.5 million.
