Desma’s new machines could dramatically reduce labour needs

The 2014 House Fair of footwear machinery supplier Desma is under way at its headquarters in Achim, northern Germany.

The event, which has been running since 2006, will this year be the largest so far, with an extended marquee and a broader range of products.

The polyurethane specialist has new machines on display, among which is one that it says could dramatically reduce the need for labour, enabling reshoring for footwear companies. Manpower expenditure per pair could be reduced to just three minutes, a more than 90% reduction compared to traditional processing, it says.

Desma managing director Christian Decker said: “The House Fair brings together partners, suppliers, customers and the DESMA members of staff, who meet onsite in Achim.”

It will be the first time a complete production system will be exhibited, using a high-automation amir C line, capable of producing a broad spectrum of footwear.
