Desma helps long-time partner boost production

In January, the Dortmund-based company installed Desma’s new rotary table, which Desma describes as the largest and most modern direct soling machine it offers.
The fully automated system has 36 stations and a total of seven robots. Until the installation of this machine, Atlas had primarily used rotary tables with up to 30 stations.
“The new machine will make our traditional production methods more flexible; the individual work stages are more precise and the production process as a whole is more efficient,” explained Dieter Bade, Desma sales manager.
Robots perform individual steps such as roughening the upper, placing steel soles, applying release agents, trimming sole edges and picking and placing. The amir system (amir stands for automated material supply with integrated robots) automatically brings parts to and from the rotary table, reducing the workload of employees.
Atlas is also one of the first companies to use Desma’s web-based “Smart Shopfloor" system, which permanently collects all machine and operating data and stores it in a database. This information can be accessed via a smartphone and enables customers to obtain information about their order at any time.
Atlas Schuhfabrik was founded in 1910 by Johannes Schabsky. It is now a leading European manufacturer of safety footwear, producing 12,000 pairs per day. Its annual production is up to 2.4 million pairs.
Desma and Atlas have been partners for 40 years, having first cooperated at the end of the 1970s. The new rotary table is the seventh machine Desma has delivered to Atlas.
