Desma to offer live demos of midsole personalisation at Simac

Direct soling technology developer Desma has said it will use the Simac exhibition in Milan (February 20-22) to conduct live demonstrations of the multi-section injection (MSI) technology that it has developed as part of the FitStation foot-scanning and footwear production system.

Desma worked with HP, Huntsman and other partners to launch FitStation in 2017.

At Simac, the company will use the demonstrations to show that MSI enables the production of PU midsoles with individualised characteristics. At the exhibition, Desma will scan visitors’ feet and produce there and then midsoles that meet those visitors’ particular requirements.

“We see the chance of using this technology for all kind of footwear, including work boots, trekking, athletic and special performance shoes,” said Desma managing director Christian Decker in the build-up to Simac. “It is a closed loop with full integration between the consumer and the manufacturing process.”

Desma has said a number of manufacturers are in final stages of product development and will start to use the technology in the first half of 2018.
