IAF commissions study of global apparel industry

Indian consultancy Technopak has produced a study of developments in the apparel industry for the upcoming World Fashion Convention in Medellin, Colombia, organised by the International Apparel Federation.

Improving production instead of moving production is an important trend, it says, and forecasts the market share for large manufacturing groups will increase.

International brands are gaining market share in emerging markets but local brands dominate. “Ideally, foreign brands help the development of local brands by setting an international bench mark, without actually dominating these markets and leaving plenty of room for local brands to prosper,” it said.

The study will be given to all delegates at the convention at the end of September and will set the scene for speakers including Stefan Siegel, Adriano Goldschmied and  Horacio Broggi of Desigual.
