The International Apparel Federation (IAF) is working with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the a framework to guide the apparel industry, leading up to a conference on the subject in September.

The IAF was invited to a meeting of the Dutch trade and development minister, Lilianne Ploumen, and her French counterpart, Nicole Bricq, also attended by the OECD’s secretary-general, Angel Gurría.

The meeting, held in Paris, produced a common statement by the two ministers calling for an international partnership for corporate responsibility.

The IAF’s action plan, which calls for a harmonised global framework for dealing with labour conditions and sustainability, could be used as the ‘due diligence’ guidelines.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is an international economic organisation of 34 countries founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade.
