Chinese firm announces $500 million textile development in Ethiopia

Chinese textile manufacturer Jiangsu Lianfa Textile has announced a new investment of $500 million in a factory in Ethiopia.

According to media in the African country, Lianfa announced the development following a meeting with Ethiopia’s president, Mulatu Teshome, whose academic background is in China.

After the meeting, Dr Teshome said developing the textile industry remains one of the government’s priorities.

The new factory will be located near Addis Ababa and could employ as many as 20,000 people when fully operational. The company manufacturers yarn, fabric and finished garments.
