Ethiopia inaugurates new textile park

A new textile industrial park has been officially opened in the Ethiopian city of Hawassa. It will be dedicated solely to exports.

The Hawassa Industrial Park will house 21 apparel and textile manufacturers from countries including China, Indonesia and the US. It was inaugurated by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and is the first of several that the country is planning to build.

The park was designed and built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). It forms part of China’s plan to establish an economic corridor to connect it to Africa and Europe. CCECC chairman Yuan Li said the industrial parks would boost Ethiopia’s economic development and provide a strategic link between the two countries.

He said industrial parks would be a powerful boost for the country’s economic development and the CCECC was a strategic long-term link between China and Ethiopia.
