Chief executive of textile chemicals company Archroma, Alexander Wessels, has said his company’s proposed acquisition of the textile business of BASF will be good news for customers.

When the deal concludes, which the two parties believe will be in the spring of 2015, Archroma customers will be able to access an extensive portfolio of products, Mr Wessels told sportstextiles. “This will combine our own innovations in the areas Archroma has been exploring,” he added, “and the innovations developed by BASF in other areas.”

BASF textile technologies he mentioned as examples included anti-wrinkle or iron-free finishes for cotton fabrics, high-performance pigment preparations, formaldehyde-free fixing agents for printing and durable, silicon-based softeners.

“The acquisition also means we will grow in some geographical areas, mainly in Asia,” he continued. “This will allow us to better serve our customers with technical support and local market insights.”
