Dispute with China could end up being positive for textiles in the Philippines

The Textile Producers Association of the Philippines (TEXPAP) has said 2014 is ending unexpectedly well for its member companies.

Political tension between the Philippines and China over a territorial dispute led to a number of large Chinese textile manufacturers leaving the Philippines earlier this year. This has given local producers of textiles and finished garments a bigger share of a growing domestic market.

TEXPAP said sales of locally produced textiles enjoyed a 30% increase in the fourth quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter last year.
