Freudenberg Group calls time on Purtex

21/01/2015
German textile group Freudenberg has decided to discontinue its functional textile finishing brand, Purtex.

Freudenberg launched Purtex at the start of 2013, promising a range of textile finishing products with durable water-repellent, water-attracting or abrasion-protection properties.

Based on a polyurethane emulsion, the range was free from solvents and presented what Freudenberg referred to at the time as “an outstanding alternative to many commonly used impregnating agents, such as those based on perflourinated compounds (PFCs) that are now controversial”.

In a brief statement, the group has now told sportstextiles that it discontinued the business activities of Purtex at the end of 2014 citing “strategic reasons”, with the Purtex range of products ceasing to be available with immediate effect.
