BASF announces butane diol production expansion

21/01/2015
Chemicals group BASF has announced that it will increase its production capacities for the chemical intermediate 1,4-butanediol (BDO) by 10% at its site in Geismar, Louisiana. The expansion will be complete in 2016.

This move will give the company a global capacity to make 670,000 tonnes of BDO per year. The intermediate is used in a wide variety of applications, including the production of elastic fibres.

BASF said the project is the result of “steadily growing customer demand” for BDO.
