Textile Institute sets sights on Turkish textile veteran as next president

The Textile Institute Council has invited Muharrem Kayhan, chairman of Turkish textile company Soktas, to stand for world president Elect. At its general election, members will vote Mr Kayhan in as the president until 2017.

Mr Kayhan has represented the interests of the Turkish textile industry in various European Union platforms while serving on the boards of the Aegean Chamber of Industry, the Exporters' Union and the Turkish Textile Employers' Union, of which he is currently president.

Helen Rowe has been requested by the TI Council to stand as chairman of TI for a third year to continue the work carried out under her chairmanship, to implement new projects and to steer the TI.

She said: “I am very much looking forward to working alongside Mr Kayhan and implementing his new and refreshing ideas which I feel will complement the exciting work already being undertaken at the Institute. I am sure we will make a great team.”
