Recognition for Clariant innovation
24/03/2015
Competing in the large company category, Clariant achieved finalist status for a range of polyolefin-based waxes called Licocene, which the programme has recognised for the advancement it could offer in sustainability in textiles, plastics and coatings and its ability to help manufacturers of finished products using these materials to improve their environmental profile.
Licocene waxes give manufacturers the possibility to use fewer ingredients, reduce manufacturing steps, and adopt production processes that are less resource-intensive. For example in textiles, Clariant says it has worked closely with German coatings and laminate specialist Lacom to help it move away from energy-intensive, water-based textile coating technology to a less energy-consuming process of hot-melt coating using very low amounts of Licocene additives. There are also environmental benefits for final products, such as improving the recyclability of textiles, or reducing product weight.
