Siretessile says anti-odour functionality is “all in the fibre”

05/05/2015
Italian textile manufacturer Siretessile has launched a new odour-control application called ABOS (absence of smell) for footwear.

Speaking at Techtextil in Frankfurt in May, the company’s research and development manager, Nicolo Rigon, told sportstextiles.com: “This is new for 2015. We use no silver or any other metal and no chemical treatment. All the antimicrobial functionality is inherent in the felt we produce because of the way we make the fibre. It’s all in the fibre and we think this is something the market will be interested in.”

As a demonstration, he applied three drops of a solution onto an insole using a pipette. The solution and the insole then smelled strongly of ammonia. However, a few minutes later, all trace of the ammonia smell had gone and the insole smelled instead of a completely new pair of shoes.
