Microban targets outdoor industry with antimicrobial product
26/11/2015
Excalibur’s proprietary bonding process provides optimal antimicrobial performance when applied to polyester fabrics and fibres, claims the US company.
When the microbes’ negatively-charged cells are attracted to Excalibur’s positive charge, Excalibur punctures the cell membrane to help kill the microbes, making the environment inhospitable for them to grow.
It is resistant to 40 washes.
Brian Aylward, director of liquid formulations R&D at Microban, said: “We engineered this technology for outdoor enthusiasts that want to be comfortable in their footwear, mid-layers and outerwear no matter what the climate. As consumers do more outdoor activities for shorter durations, Excalibur fits with the ‘done in a day’ mentality, providing protection that endures frequent washing.”
Excalibur works with polyester, poly-blends, fleece, insulation, fibrefill, leather and synthetic leather for outerwear, mid-layers and footwear, including hiking boots, running shoes and sandals. It is also compatible with high performing water repellent systems.
