French company Thuasne has secured permission to use the Wool Blend licence on a series of compression socks, Venoflex Fast Laine, that it makes for the medical device market.

This accreditation offers consumers a guarantee that the merino wool content in the socks is at least 39%. Thuasne said on announcing its success that it wanted to use a high proportion of natural fibre in the product so that the socks can be worn “easily and frequently”.

It said the attractions of using merino include using fibres that are three times finer, at 19.5 microns, that regular wool, breathability, protection from cold and skin-friendliness.
