Freitag to launch 100% compostable jeans

Swiss clothing brand Freitag is to add cotton-free “denim” jeans to a collection of apparel it has put together under the label F-abric.

F-abric came about when the Zurich-based company gave up on a search it had begun to find on the open market a fabric that was tough and sustainably produced of compostable material made in Europe for its own employees to wear. Unable to source what it wanted, it created its own.

Hemp, linen and Modal are among the fibres used to make F-abric fabrics, with all resources grown on European soil. Freitag also insists on using as few chemicals as possible to make sure the clothes that make up its collection will be 100% naturally biodegradable.

It claims its new jeans will be the world’s first 100% compostable denims.
