Athleisure no longer a trend, but mainstream

A senior trends consultant at specialist consultancy WGSN has said ‘athleisure’ is no longer a trend.

Speaking in Milan at a presentation revealing macro-trends for the autumn-winter 2016-2017 season, WGSN’s Helen Sac said athleisure, which describes a cross-over between clothing and footwear for athletic and outdoor activity and for leisure activities such as meeting friends at a coffee shop or restaurant, has ceased to be a trend and is now a mainstream part of lifestyle fashion.

She said this gives sports and outdoor shoe and clothing brands lots of scope for using “fun colours and bold shapes” in their collections.
