The sixth annual Planet Textiles conference, examining the future of the textile industry and its impact on the environment, will take place in Shanghai on October 14 in parallel with the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics fair.

Speakers will include the adidas group’s senior director for apparel materials, Molly Claiborne-Iskorkutan, and Sean Cady, global vice-president for sourcing at VF Corporation. Scott Echols, technology director of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC)
Group will also speak.

In later sessions, the chief executive of bluesign technologies, Peter Waeber, will speak about the industry’s quest to reach “the next level of sustainable production”, and Nick Smith, global head of textile coatings for Covestro (the recently announced new name for Bayer MaterialScience) will address the question of emissions of dimethylformamide (DMF) vapour in traditional methods of making PU-coated textiles.

This year the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics fair will run from October 13-15 and will, for the first time, have a new zone dedicated to fabrics for the high-performance activewear market.
