Sri Lankan textile researchers search for local raw materials to replace imported cotton

Researchers from Ruhuna University in Sri Lanka are to work with textile companies in the south of the country to produce textiles from local fibres, including bamboo and plantain. The aim is to use local raw materials as an alternative to importing cotton.
Wetakeiya and pineapple trees are other possible sources the researchers will look at.
