Textile chemicals manufacturer Huntsman has fully reopened its white pigment factory in Uerdingen, Germany, following an incident in August.

On August 5,  a nitrogen tank exploded at the factory, injuring 19 people. The German authorities began immediately to assess the safety of the site, including detailed analysis of dust particles to test for the presence of asbestos.

The factory partially reopened before the end of August and on October 1, Huntsman said the authorities’ assessment of the site was complete and that the company had received the go-ahead to make the facility fully operational again.

“We appreciate the support of the local authorities and our associates for working tirelessly to get the plant back online,” said Simon Turner, president of the Huntsman Pigments and Additives division.
