Indorama makes polymer acquisition in Spain

12/11/2015
Thai industrial group Indorama has reached agreement to acquire a polymer-making subsidiary of Spanish oil and chemicals group Cepsa. The acquisition will bring into Indorama’s control a plant near Cádiz in the south of Spain that makes polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

Cepsa acquired the plant in 2011; it had belonged to polymer producer La Seda de Barcelona but had been moth-balled since 2008. Current capacity levels are 325,000 tonnes of PTA and 175,000 tonnes of PET per year.
