Pentland launches new research centre at University of Lancaster
Sports, outdoor and fashion group Pentland held the formal launch of a new research unit at the University of Lancaster in northern England on November 18. The new Pentland Centre will carry out research into solutions for the sustainability challenges faced by businesses today.

The university has appointed Professor Gail Whitman to head up the Pentland Centre and to be the first incumbent of a new chair for sustainability in business, named the Rubin Chair after the Rubin family, which holds a majority stake in the Pentland Group.

Before arriving in Lancaster at the start of this academic year, Professor Whiteman spent more than a decade at the Rotterdam School of Management. She has also spent time in Canada studying changes in sea-ice levels and has said she intends to continue this work in her new role.

At the November launch event, the chairman of Pentland, Stephen Rubin, said: “It’s vital that we have the brightest minds in business and science working closely in a field that’s so important for businesses to act on. I hope the Pentland Centre will inspire the business leaders of today, as well as the next generation.”
