VF Corporation and Nike are the sole representatives of the sports and outdoor sectors to have signed the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, a White House initiative aimed at encouraging big companies to curb greenhouse gas emissions and invest in clean energy.

At the start of the  2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21, in Paris, the US government revealed that from 13 companies signed up to the Act in the summer, the occasion of the Paris even had convinced a further 68 companies to sign up, including Nike and VF.

“Climate change is the defining issue of our generation and its effects threaten the health of our planet and the global economy,” said Letitia Webster, VF’s senior director of global corporate sustainability and responsibility, at the time of the announcement.
