Norrona questions Greenpeace PFC test results

Norwegian outdoor brand Norrona has issued a statement questionning publicity linking it to Greenpeace’s campaign against polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs).

During the ISPO exhibition in Munich in January, the campaign sought to continue its campaign against PFCs and gave details of tests it has carried out on a series of high-profile outdoor apparel products, including Norrona’s Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro jacket.

In response, Norrona has said it was aware that the garment contained PFC’s for durable water resistance, but that the levels are compliant with the limit values specified by Bluesign.

“Nevertheless, we question the values detected in the tests set up by Greenpeace. Gore-Tex has also arranged tests on the jacket, using an independent laboratory. These tests showed PFC values that were considerably lower [than Greenpeace’s] and absolutely in conformance with Buesign limits.”

Norrona said it was working to remove PFCs from its supply chain, but that, as yet, it had found no viable alternative.
