Prato manufacturers make joint Detox commitment
11/02/2016
Campaign group Greenpeace said the agreement will affect more than 13,000 tonnes of yarn and other raw materials and more than 13 million metres of fabric each year.
“Prato’s decision will ripple throughout the global textile supply chain and encourage more manufacturers to Detox,” said Giuseppe Onufrio, executive director of Greenpeace Italy.
Prato-based companies have already removed several hazardous chemical groups from their supply chains, as required by the Detox campaign. These include brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, organotins compounds, and amines associated with azo dyes. They have now set a clear and ambitious list of all hazardous chemicals that they will eliminate from the supply chain by 2020. They have also defined shorter timelines to remove poly- and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs).
