BASF puts students’ sneaker designs on show at Simac

Footwear materials specialists from chemicals manufacturer BASF took part in the 2016 Simac exhibition in Milan (February 23-35).

As well as displaying footwear innovations it has introduced in recent years, including its Elastopan Light Sports polyether-based PU sustem, its Elastolan Light thermoplastic PU and its safety-shoe-focused Infinergy comfort system, BASF also displayed shoes produced for a student design competition.

BASF worked in partnership with the Politecnico Calzaturiero footwear design and technology school near Padua to run the competition.

A professional design studio, Stefano di Francesco, created soles from PU for the students’ entries and participants in the competition then had to design a unisex sneaker based on this sole. Three winning entries were put on display at the BASF stand at Simac.
