FDRA hopeful over new tariff reduction bill

Industry body the Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America (FDRA) has welcomed strong support in the Congress in Washington DC for a new Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB).

In late April Congress approved by 415 votes to two an act called the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act of 2016. In response, FDRA president, Matt Priest, said this legislation would “strengthen the process” that his organisation hopes will bring about a new MTB.

“MTBs lower import taxes on products needed by US businesses to increase their competitiveness and create new jobs,” Mr Priest said after the April vote. “Tariff reduction [is] critical to our industry.”

FDRA represents 130 footwear companies and 200 brands in the US that, together, account for 80% of the country’s total footwear sales.
