New technology gives Odlo freedom

Speaking of her company’s experience of using Lectra’s Modaris 3D pattern-making solution, Odlo’s team leader for quality management, Ulrike Froitzheim, has explained that designing sportswear is complicated because it needs to accommodate “a dynamic range of motion” and withstand more stress than regular streetwear. Comfort is key, so seams need to be placed carefully and adjustments made until fit and form are just right.
Creating multiple prototypes with high-end technical fabrics is time-consuming and expensive, but according to Ms Froitzheim, Modaris 3D will make this much more manageable. “It allows us to see what a design will look like and how fabric will fall, without having to create a physical sample. We can make
as many adjustments as we need without worrying about cost,” she has said. “Today, our pattern-makers feel free to take more creative risks. They used to play it safe and keep changes to a minimum, but now they can make bolder choices because they can instantly see what their changes will look like, in multiple positions, and decide if they are on the right track.”
