Lydia Ko among golfers to take to the Boa closure system

Adidas recently joined golf footwear brand Footjoy in using the Boa closure system instead of conventional laces in golf shoes, with top players Lydia Ko and Jason Day embracing the idea. New Zealander, Ms Ko, is a Footjoy athlete, while Jason Day wears adidas shoes.

Boa argues that its system, which uses steel lace, nylon guides and a “micro-adjustable” reel performs better, the manufacturer claims, than laces, buckles, ratchets and hook-and-loop.

Footjoy has been working with Boa since 2006, but from this summer will have available two models that use the system, the DNA and Hyperflex shoes. Adidas is offering the technology in its Tour360 Boa Boost shoes.
