Home team success will be good news for sports brands

NDP has calculated that victory for Germany in the FIFA World Cup in 2014 boosted sales of the team’s shirts by 40% in its home market. It said the market for football kits in France at the moment is worth €105 million per year but said a good performance by France in the 2016 European Championship could boost this figure by 50%.
It went on to say that it regards this estimate as conservative because it does not take into account sales in France to visitors. The matches at the competition have been well attended and some fans have waited until their arrival in France to buy their team’s shirt.
