AKU joins the Michelin sole roster

High-end Italian mountain and outdoor footwear brand AKU has used a new design it calls the Elica Natural Stride System in its spring 2017 collection.

The system uses lasting and fitting ideas that AKU says are designed to mimic the rotation of the heel and forefoot while walking. The shoes and boots are, therefore, designed “to support the natural stride with stability and support”, the brand has said.

AKU has joined the growing list of outdoor footwear companies that are partnering with tyre manufacturer Michelin, which, through a joint venture with Chinese company JV International, is developing specialist soling technologies for footwear. In AKU’s case, Michelin has supplied exclusive outsoles for a number of the styles in the spring 2017 collection, with a design specific to the Elica Natural Stride System and “informed by an expertise in developing tread for mountain bike tyres”.
