Intellectual property conference would include sports brands

The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) held a meeting in mid-September with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and other intellectual property rights bodies with a view to strengthening efforts to combat intellectual property rights infringements.

One issue discussed was the assessment of an anti-counterfeiting campaign that FESI ran during the summer of 2016 to raise awareness, especially among young consumers, of the perils of purchasing counterfeit products online.

This initiative had the specific purpose of protecting intellectual property ahead of the Euro 2016 Football Championship in France and had the financial support of EUIPO.

The two organisations have talked about organising customs training sessions in different European Union member states and a high-level conference involving “all relevant stakeholders”, including sports brands.
