Consumer products group Newell Brands has said it intends to keep German ski brand Völkl if it cannot find a buyer. The same applies to its other winter sports brands, the group has confirmed.

Employees and customers of Völkl were surprised to learn in a statement about future policy that Newell Brands intended to sell. In response the group issued a statement in German saying it has decided to sell because of “a change of focus” and not for economic reasons.

It added that Völkl will remain part of the group “if no suitable buyer is found”.
