Messe Frankfurt to monitor Ethiopia unrest

Messe Frankfurt said on October 4 that, in partnership with Africa Sourcing & Fashion Week, it will bring its Texworld, Apparel Sourcing and Texprocess events to east Africa, integrating them into the 2017 edition of the event, which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
On October 11, the Ethiopian government announced the state of emergency in the face of anti-government protests and attacks on foreign-owned companies.
Speaking in China at his company’s Intertextile Shanghai exhibition, Olaf Schmidt, Messe Frankfurth’s vice-president of textiles and textile technologies, said the decision to take Texworld, Apparel Sourcing and Texprocess to Ethiopia had been made six months ago. “We took it after monitoring the situation in that part of the world for a long time, and after talking to machinery companies and others,” he explained.
Dates for the event in Addis Ababa have not been finalised, but the 2016 Africa Sourcing & Fashion Week took place in early October. Mr Schmidt said his company will monitor the situation carefully.
