The International Cotton Association (ICA) elected a new leadership team at its annual general meeting in Liverpool in mid-October.

Ju¨rg Reinhart, chairman of Swiss cotton trading company Paul Reinhart AG, is the new ICA president. He will be supported by first vice-president, Salman Ispahani, managing director of Pahartali Textiles in Bangladesh, and by Bill Ballenden, general manager of Louis Dreyfus Company Suisse, as second vice-president.

In his first address as president, Ju¨rg Reinhart said: “The increasing complexity of globalised trade and the increase of worldwide regulations and laws have left their mark on our rules and bylaws, which have been constantly amended and reformed over the years. Without sanctity of contracts, our business is dead. We have to be strict against violators in the common interest of us all; and I ask you all for your unconditional support.”
