With adidas, AMSilk presented the world’s first high-performance sports shoe with an upper material entirely consisting of biodegradable AMSilk Biosteel fibres. “The sports shoes made of nature-identical silk biopolymers set new standards regarding the sustainability and functionality of textiles,” said chief executive, Jens Klein in recent comments. “Further products currently in development with renowned international cooperation partners will follow.”
The company has also gained accreditation for its production and product development from the Hohenstein Institute. At the same time, the company said the SGS Institute Fresenius had confirmed the biodegradability of its fibres.
Its Biosteel fibre received production and product development certification from the Hohenstein Institute in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Furthermore, SGS Institute Fresenius confirmed that the AMSilk Biosteel fibres are biodegradable. The silk material was subjected to a standard test examining the biodegradability in accordance with OECD Norm 301B and was defined as “readily biodegradable”. This is the best test result possible.
