Sportswear manufacturer adidas has recruited two star Chinese athletes to lead its marketing campaign in the country.

Freestyle swimmer Ning Zetao and volleyball player Hui Ruogi will serve as brand ambassadors for a campaign that adidas is calling “One in a Billion”. It is intended to “boost creativity in sport” in China.

Both athletes won gold medals in their respective sports at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The two represent not only success in sports, but also stand out for their individuality as stars of the post-’90s generation,” adidas said of the athletes.

“Creativity is the core of our business and part of everything we do,” added Colin Currie, managing director of adidas’ Greater China division. “We remain strongly committed to working closely with our ever-expanding portfolio of sports assets to accelerate the pace of sport development nationwide and inspire more Chinese to embrace their individuality through sport.”
