As part of the agreement, adidas will also sponsor two of Wanda’s Ironman events in China. The German manufacturer will be the sole brand sponsor for the events in the Chinese cities of Hefei and Xiamen, which are organised by Wanda after its acquisition in August 2015 of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
We are now looking forward to working with Wanda Group, one of China’s largest and most respected companies as well as a powerful name in the world of sport, to realize our shared vision to develop sport in China and throughout the world” said Mr Hainer.
“Both Wanda and adidas share a number of common goals, both in a commercial sense and in our genuine desire to nurture sport not only in China but around the world,” Mr Wang added.
Adidas China has also announced that it will expand its grassroot activities in China. It signed a three-year deal with the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2015, with the target of reaching 20 million students across the country. Adidas ambassador David Beckham recently visited Guangzhou and played football with children from a local school. He also opened the brand’s first football store in the city.
