Eastman Chemical Company is to expand the production capacity for its Avra Performance Fibres, which it launched in August 2016.

At the time of their unveiling at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, US, Eastman described them as “the next generation of polyester fibres”. They are created using a proprietary spinning technology.

The Avra fibres are made in the US with the collaboration of yarn manufacturer Unifi. The additional capacity will be located at Unifi’s facility in North Carolina.

“The construction work at Unifi is now complete and we are proceeding with our plan to start up the new lines this month (January),” said Dawn Allen, Eastman business director. “This capacity will be used to satisfy current and anticipated demand in the North American performance apparel market.”
