Skins brings proprioception into compression tights
19/01/2017
The tights combine compression fabric with strategically placed proprioceptive bands to help wearers resist fatigue, reduce the risk of injury and improve performance by enhancing proprioception, the ability to increase awareness of the body’s position and movement throught he sense of touch, especially through the feet.
Skins describes proprioception as “unconscious perception of motion and spatial awareness” and as the body’s ability “to sense movement in the joints, so you’re aware of where your limbs are without having to look”.
The Australian brand has argued that, while proprioception is important for everyday activities like standing and walking, it’s even more important during physical activity where “dynamic movements and co-ordination are vital for optimal performance”. Skins has also said that when a person is active for long periods of time, the body’s ability to perform at a sustained intensity drops as the muscles become fatigued. This reduces the joint support that controls normal motion effectively, and can lead to poor form and increased risk of injury.
It has said that K-Proprium tights can help by allowing more oxygen to reach active muscles and removing waste products from the body faster.
