Legal win in China for Huntsman Textile Effects

Huntsman’s Textile Effects division secured a victory in a legal battle in mid-February. Huntsman had previously been successful in a patent infringement claim against a Chinese rival, Colva, only for Colva to ask for a retrial. At a new court hearing, China’s Supreme People’s Court rejected Colva’s appeal.

Huntsman’s complaint centred on an infringement of a patent it holds in China for products that make it possible for textile manufacturers to achieve deep black shades. Two dyes that Colva brought to market breached Huntsman’s intellectual property.

President of Huntsman Textile Effects, Rohit Aggarwal, said on announcing the latest development: “We are extremely pleased with the Supreme People’s Court’s decision to protect and uphold valuable intellectual property rights of companies. This will spur Huntsman’s ongoing investments in cutting-edge technology to bring new and exciting innovation to our customers and the industry.”

The company will now seek damages of around $30 million.
